Construction has officially begun to upgrade Bel Air Avenue, from Dennis to Francois Street, to better accommodate the increasing volume of traffic in the area.
The works are part of phase two of the rehabilitation of the Conversation Tree Bypass Road.
The eastern section, from Dennis to Francois Street, is being managed by P’s Construction at a cost of $1.5 billion, while the western section is being handled by R&B Investment at a cost of $1.05 billion.
The entire project is expected to be completed within 12 to 14 months.
During a recent engagement with residents and other stakeholders, Project Engineer Kester Hinds outlined the scope of the works.
He explained that the project would include building a new carriageway on the reserve to accommodate the northbound flow of traffic and upgrading the current street to facilitate smooth traffic movement.
Hinds stated, “We are building a new carriageway on the other side to facilitate the traffic that is northbound, and on the reserve, we are going to build a new carriageway there and upgrade this street to facilitate the northbound flow of traffic.”
Public Works Minister Juan Edghill encouraged residents to cooperate during the construction period, emphasizing that while development is underway, community relations should be maintained and improved.
He shared, “We have to find a way that while we are bringing development, community relations are not fractured but they are improved. It is with that continuation of the project that we have come to inform you and discuss with you, introduce you to the contractor and the persons who are going to be involved in the work, so that you will be able to know who to engage if there are any concerns.”
