Expansion of Corentyne Highway Underway

The upgrades to the Corentyne main road are set to enhance the lives of Guyanese tremendously (High commission of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana)

Preparatory works for the expansion of the Corentyne Highway to a four-lane road have begun in Region Six.

This ambitious project includes the construction of four-lane bridges spanning from Palmyra to Brighton village.

Leslie Halley, the foreman of the project from Kares Engineering Inc., assured that traffic flow is being managed effectively, with vehicles directed through diversion roads at specific points.

While there are concerns about the increased presence of trucks in the area, measures are in place to ensure smooth operations.

The expansion project, overseen by the Ministry of Public Works, is a vital step towards enhancing transportation connectivity.

An allocation of $27.7 billion in Budget 2023 underscores the government’s commitment to this endeavor.

This development not only addresses immediate infrastructural needs but also aligns with plans for the future Suriname-Guyana Corentyne River Bridge, which is expected to bring a significant rise in vehicular traffic.

The project is slated for completion within the next one to two years, promising improved accessibility and convenience for residents and commuters alike.
