Expansion of Aubrey Barker Road to Continue Despite Challenges

Public Works Minister Juan Edghill has announced that tenders are being advertised for the extension of another 1.3 kilometers of the Aubrey Barker Road, currently undergoing widening to a four-lane thoroughfare.

Despite delays in the ongoing Aubrey Barker four-lane expansion project, Minister Edghill revealed the government’s plan to further extend the road.

He made this announcement during a recent inspection of the project.

During the inspection, it was discovered that the progress of the works was impeded by the presence of a Digicel pole directly in line with the construction area.

Minister Edghill expressed concerns about such obstacles affecting the project’s timeline.

Minister Edghill highlighted that in January, the ministry signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with all utility providers, outlining operational procedures to prevent any entity from hindering the progress of others’ work.

These utility providers include Guyana Water Inc (GWI), Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Co Ltd (GTT), Digicel, Guyana Power and Light (GPL), and the National Data Management Authority (NDMA).

Despite challenges, the government remains committed to the expansion project, aiming to enhance transportation infrastructure and alleviate traffic congestion in the area.
