Expanding Home Ownership in Guyana: Dream Realised Housing Drive

By Delicia Janneire

In a significant move towards addressing the housing needs of Guyanese citizens, the Central Housing and Planning Authority recently hosted the Dream Realised initiative, marking another milestone in the expansion of home ownership in the country.

The event, held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, saw the allocation of 1000 house lots to eager citizens.

This distribution follows closely on the heels of another allocation of 1500 house lots in region three, as part of the ongoing Wales housing development project.

For many beneficiaries, the long-awaited receipt of these house lots represents a dream come true. Individuals expressed their gratitude and excitement, highlighting the profound impact this opportunity has on their lives.

In addition to the allocation of house lots, the initiative also provided 50 steel and cement vouchers, along with certificates of titles, streamlining the process for homeownership and providing tangible support to those in need.

Addressing the gathering, Housing Minister Collin Croal underscored the significance of the Dream Realised drive in clearing the backlog of applications dating back to 2019 and prior.

Minister Croal reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing housing needs and ensuring access to affordable housing for all citizens.

Despite the allocation of 1000 house lots during the event, Minister Croal noted that there remains a significant backlog of over 40,000 applications.

However, progress has been made, particularly in region four, where a substantial portion of allocations has been directed.

Minister Croal also highlighted ongoing infrastructure development in Non Pariel and Enterprise phase two, emphasizing amenities such as a GWI treatment facility and a GPL substation within the community.

The Dream Realised housing drive reflects the government’s dedication to addressing housing challenges and providing opportunities for home ownership to Guyanese citizens.

As the initiative continues to make strides in the housing sector, it promises to bring tangible benefits to communities across the country.
