Everest Cricket Club hosted a ceremony on Thursday to celebrate the achievements of several national athletes, including three senior cricketers and two table tennis players.
The event recognized the contributions of these athletes to sports in Guyana.
Among the honorees was Guyana Harpy Eagles opening batsman, Matthew Nandu, who made his debut for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2023 CPL.
Talented all-rounder Junior Sinclair, who received his maiden First-Class call-up this season, was also recognized.
Off-spinner Richie Looknauth, who impressed with a nine-wicket haul on his First-Class debut, was awarded for his standout performances.
In the realm of table tennis, national players Miguel Wong and Colin Wong received plaques for their continued success in the sport.
Everest Cricket Club President, Manzoor Nadir, emphasized the importance of celebrating successes, noting that the club fosters wellness and overall athletic development, rather than just focusing on setbacks.
Assistant Treasurer Safraz Sheriffudeen reaffirmed the club’s long-standing commitment to supporting athletes, highlighting Everest’s century-long tradition of excellence.
Additionally, the club announced the appointment of Nial Smith, a Guyana Harpy Eagles fast bowler, as the captain of its First Division cricket team, bringing leadership experience to the squad.
With a legacy spanning over 100 years, Everest Cricket Club continues to play a vital role in Guyana’s sporting development.
