Essequibo has achieved a significant milestone in healthcare development with the commissioning of its first simulation training centre by the Ministry of Health.

The new facility, located in Cinderella County, aims to enhance medical training and education for professionals and students, addressing the growing demand for skilled healthcare workers in the region.

The simulation centre is part of a broader initiative to improve hands-on training in the healthcare sector.

It will serve as a training hub, reducing the need for medical workers in the region to travel to Georgetown for practical learning opportunities.

The facility will include a computer lab, lecture theater, and other state-of-the-art resources to support continuous education for medical professionals.

The Ministry of Health is also constructing a new nursing school within the centre’s compound to address the region’s healthcare workforce needs.

The school is expected to contribute to the training of 600 to 800 nurses, a critical requirement to meet the demands of the expanding healthcare system in Essequibo.

In addition to the simulation centre, Essequibo will soon benefit from a modern hospital currently under construction in Lima.

The hospital is designed to reduce medical transfers to Georgetown by offering comprehensive healthcare services locally.

It will feature 75 inpatient beds, two operating theaters, a minor theater, outpatient clinics, digital imaging services, CT scans, and a fully equipped laboratory.

These developments are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to elevate the standard of healthcare in Guyana.

The introduction of advanced facilities like the simulation centre and the Lima hospital is expected to significantly improve access to quality medical care for residents of Essequibo.
