ERC launches Harmony Clubs at Reg. 6 schools

-by Kyler Rollins

The Ethnic Relations Commission today launched its Harmony Club at three primary schools in Region Six.

The initiative aims to encourage peaceful coexistence and empower pupils to become ambassadors of unity within their schools and communities.

This brings the total number of Harmony Clubs established across the country to 16.

In an interview with NCN News, Chairman of the ERC, Shaikh Moeenul Hack, underscored the importance of engaging young people in promoting unity, noting that the values instilled in them today will be carried forward to future generations.

“We think it is important to start from the beginning and get this message over to our young. They will be the future of our country and if they can live amongst each other in peace, harmony and love, hopefully that behaviour will be extended to their other colleagues at school and the wider society,” he said.
Hack says the initiative complements the Ministry of Education’s anti-bullying campaign and other organizations seeking to promote peace and harmony.

“We monitor those harmony clubs that we have already established in 2025. We think that it has had a positive impact not only on the students of the club, but their colleagues, their school mates in the school because everyone wants to know what the club is about and so it is helping it bring about not only good relationships but better behaviour and conduct,” he added.

Pupils, guided by their teachers, will serve as ambassadors of unity, promoting peaceful coexistence and strengtheningrelationships among peers.

The ERC says it will continue the initiative in other schools across the country.
