The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC), in collaboration with United Nations Guyana and the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority (GNBA), hosted a one-day workshop aimed at empowering media professionals to counter hate speech effectively.
This initiative is part of the ERC’s ongoing Countering Hate Speech Campaign, held at the Pegasus Hotel, and brought together broadcasters, content creators, influencers, ERC Commissioners, and UN representatives.
ERC Chairman Shaik Moeen Ul Hack emphasized the importance of media professionals in combating hate speech, particularly as the 2025 elections approach, a period traditionally associated with heightened societal tensions.
Chairperson of GNBA, Latchmie Rahamat, reinforced this message, stressing the need for collaborative solutions to reduce hate speech’s prevalence.
The Countering Hate Speech Campaign, launched in June, focuses on educating the public, youth, and media on the impact of inflammatory language, promoting awareness to foster a more inclusive society.
