By Celestine Chacon, NCN News – December 28, 2024

The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) has revealed the winners of its highly anticipated Jingle Competition during an awards ceremony held on Friday at the Umana Yana in Kingston, Georgetown.

The competition, launched on November 1st, aimed to promote unity and harmony among Guyana’s diverse ethnic groups, in line with the ERC’s mission.

A total of fifty-one valid entries were submitted to the competition.

The first-place prize was awarded to Adaiah Griffith, with Alcesa Grenville Wong securing second place and Roger Hinds, known as ‘Young Bill Rogers,’ claiming third place.

Each of the top three winners received a trophy and shared nearly $1.5 million in prizes.

The jingles, which feature messages of love, peace, tolerance, and togetherness, are intended to serve as a unifying force, particularly during the election period.

With the 2025 General Elections approaching, the ERC hopes that these jingles will help mitigate tensions and resonate with citizens across the country.

Charles Ogle, Deputy-Chairman of the ERC, emphasized that the jingles aim to foster unity and strengthen relationships among the country’s citizens.

Meanwhile, ERC Commissioner Neaz Subhan expressed optimism that the jingles would play a vital role in the commission’s broader efforts to bring Guyanese people together.

The competition is seen as a positive initiative to promote national cohesion and support peaceful coexistence in the lead-up to the upcoming elections.
