EPA Takes Steps to Address Noise Nuisance

Noise nuisance has been a persistent issue in various communities throughout Guyana. To tackle some of the sources of this problem, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host a dialogue on Responsible Noise Management Practices on Wednesday, September 6.

Kaycia Haynes, an Environmental Officer with the EPA, highlighted the agency’s firm commitment to addressing noise nuisance. One of their key objectives is to raise awareness among citizens about the serious consequences of noise pollution on both individual health and the environment.

Haynes explained that many individuals are unaware of the impacts that noise pollution can have on human health and the environment. As a response, the EPA aims to provide training and awareness initiatives to inform people about how noise pollution can affect them and what measures can be taken to minimize its impact.

During the engagement session, the EPA will interact with DJs, selectors, entertainers, and operators of sound systems. They will guide them through the authorization process and provide insights into relevant regulations.

The EPA also aims to educate the public on noise regulations, as awareness of these regulations is currently lacking. They will use the opportunity to sensitize individuals about noise regulation, explain the authorization process, and offer guidance on obtaining long-term or short-term noise permits.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Ramada Princess Hotel, starting at 10:00 am. Additionally, individuals experiencing noise nuisance in their communities or residences are encouraged to report it to the EPA via the telephone number 225 5467.
