In a bid to combat noise nuisance, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) organized an Awareness Session at the Ramada Princess Hotel on Wednesday.
The session was attended by DJs, selectors, entertainers, and sound system operators, where they were enlightened about environmental regulations, the various types of noise, and the significant impact of noise on both physical and mental health.
Senior Environmental Officer, Jomo Tobin, stressed the importance of ensuring that individuals in these roles understand their responsibilities, as well as the relevant regulations and permits.
DJ Clive Baird shared some valuable insights gained from the session. He emphasized the need to moderate music levels, especially in residential areas, out of respect for neighbors, particularly those with children.
The session specifically targeted owners and operators of music systems along the East Bank of Demerara. The EPA plans to extend these engagements to other regions in the country. Moreover, the EPA is working in collaboration with the Guyana Police Force to jointly tackle and mitigate the issue of noise nuisance.
This initiative represents a crucial step towards fostering a more harmonious and considerate sonic environment for all members of the community.
