In commemoration of World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5th, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Guyana is gearing up to host its Green March on Sunday, June 2nd.
This year’s march will feature unique elements aimed at providing participants with a memorable experience while promoting environmental awareness and action.
Senior Environmental Officer La Donna Kissoon announced that, for the first time, the EPA’s Green March will extend to regions 2, 6, and 7, in addition to its traditional presence in region 4.
This expansion aims to engage more citizens across the country and foster greater awareness of environmental conservation efforts.
In region 4, the march will commence at 6 am, with participants gathering at Sea Wall Road in Kingston, Georgetown.
From there, the route will take them through Camp Street, Church Street, Albert Street, culminating in a ceremonial aspect at the National Park.
The ceremony will feature addresses and entertainment to further engage participants and the public.
A highlight of this year’s Green March is the opportunity for participants to win prizes.
Kissoon revealed that awards will be given for the best banners, encouraging individuals and groups to design banners that align with the theme of the event while reflecting their environmental beliefs and commitments.
Additionally, prizes will be awarded for the most creative shirts and costumes, as well as for the group with the highest number of members, incentivizing active participation and creativity.
The Green March serves as a platform to inspire collective action and raise awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship.
Through events like these, the EPA aims to empower individuals and communities to take proactive steps towards protecting and preserving the environment for future generations.
