EPA Chief Emphasizes Collective Action for Sustainable Future at World Environment Day Event

A collective action is needed by all Guyanese in fostering a sustainable future for the Environment

At a recent World Environment Day event held at the Umana Yana, Khemraj Parsram, Head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), underscored the imperative for collective action among Guyanese citizens to secure a sustainable future. .

Parsram emphasized the significance of collaboration among various stakeholders, including the government, communities, private sector, and individuals, in pooling resources and efforts to address environmental challenges and foster a sustainable future.

He stressed the importance of coming together to take proactive measures for the preservation of Guyana’s natural resources.

During the event, Parsram also highlighted the EPA’s commitment to global biodiversity goals, particularly the 30×30 initiative.

This global effort aims to protect and manage 30% of the world’s land, freshwater, and oceans by 2030.

Noting the participation of over 190 countries in this endeavor, Parsram reiterated Guyana’s dedication to contributing to this ambitious target.

Furthermore, Parsram provided insights into specific actions being undertaken by the EPA and partner organizations to safeguard key watersheds in Guyana, such as the Essequibo, Demerara, and Berbice.

These efforts include ongoing monitoring of water quality and educational initiatives aimed at raising awareness about the importance of these ecosystems among Guyanese citizens.

In his address, Parsram emphasized the crucial role of citizen engagement in promoting responsible stewardship of Guyana’s natural resources.

He stressed the need for active participation from individuals in appreciating and caring for the country’s rich environmental heritage.

As the event concluded, Parsram’s message resonated with attendees, emphasizing the collective responsibility shared by all Guyanese in safeguarding the environment for future generations.
