England Clinch T20 Series Against West Indies

By Tyriq Walters | November 14, 2024

England secured victory over the West Indies with three balls to spare, claiming an unassailable lead in their five-match T20 series.

The win came in the third match of the series on Thursday night at the Daren Sammy Cricket Stadium.

Despite a four-wicket haul by Akeal Hosein, which put pressure on the English team, all-rounders Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone led England’s counterattack, steering them to victory.

Opting to bat first, the West Indies were quickly under pressure as English bowlers reduced them to 37/5 within just six overs. Saqib Mahmood (3/17) and Jamie Overton (3/20) dismantled the Windies top order, with Shai Hope, Evin Lewis, Nicholas Pooran, Roston Chase, and Shimron Hetmyer all falling cheaply.

Captain Rovman Powell fought back with 54 off 41 balls, while Romario Shepherd added 30.

Lower order contributions from Alzarri Joseph and Akeal Hosein brought the West Indies total to a modest 145/8 in their 20 overs.

In reply, England also had a shaky start, losing Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, and Jacob Bethell during the powerplay.

However, Will Jacks (32 off 33 balls), along with Curran (41) and Livingstone (39), formed a crucial partnership, providing a solid foundation for England.

Hosein’s excellent bowling (4/22) threatened to turn the match, but England reached the target with half an over to spare.

The fourth T20I is scheduled for Saturday at 14:00 hours at the same venue.
