Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: Recap of ‘We Lift 4’ Expo

By Fabiana McKlmon

In a bid to foster female entrepreneurship and economic empowerment, the ‘We Lift 4’ expo provided a platform for 250 women-owned small businesses from across all ten administrative regions of Guyana.

Sponsored by Republic Bank, this event proved to be a significant opportunity for these entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services, network with industry peers, and expand their businesses.

With an investment of approximately $9 million, the expo featured businesses from various sectors including craft, beauty, fashion, construction, and agro-processing.

Entrepreneurs capitalized on the large crowds that gathered at the National Aquatic Centre, resulting in substantial sales and exposure for their ventures.

Among the inspiring stories shared at the event were those of Shimane, owner of ‘Nails by Shimane,’ who transitioned from a nail technician to offering online training and beauty supply products.

Ronda Arthur, owner of ‘R&M Hair Growth Oil & Cream,’ recounted how her daughter’s experience with hair loss led her to create organic hair products to address such issues.

Oneca Yaw, owner of ‘Hummingbird,’ found innovative ways to repurpose waste fabrics into profitable products.

Simone, owner of ‘Impeccable Creations,’ expressed her admiration for the diverse talents showcased by women entrepreneurs at the expo.

The ‘We Lift’ expo aims to empower women and encourage them to explore new opportunities for growth and success.

Held on Sunday, April 21, the event underscored the importance of supporting and promoting women’s entrepreneurship in Guyana.
