An elderly couple from Vryheid Village, West Canje, Berbice, can now rest easy, knowing they no longer have to fear their home collapsing around them.
Thanks to the Men On Mission (MoM) initiative, Mohamed Hassan Ramdular, 62, and his wife, Fazeeroon Ramdular, 56, have been gifted a brand-new, fully furnished home.
The couple’s new beginning was marked by a simple but significant ceremony on Sunday, where Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha officially handed over the house to the Ramdulars.
Regional Vice Chairman Zamal Hussain, along with family and friends, joined the occasion, witnessing a moment that brought relief and joy to the family.
For Fazeeroon, the new home was a dream come true. Overwhelmed with emotion, she reflected on the many hardships she and her husband endured while living in their deteriorating home, including days when rainwater would pour through their leaking roof.
Her husband, Mohamed, who once worked as a cane harvester, had been the sole breadwinner until a complication with his legs left him wheelchair-bound and unable to work.
The Men on Mission initiative, conceptualized by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, was praised by Minister Mustapha as a critical support system for vulnerable groups across the country.
He highlighted that the initiative goes beyond building homes—it restores hope, dignity, and security for families facing significant challenges.
The Ramdulars’ home was constructed with the support of several regional contractors who donated their time and resources to build and furnish the home, providing the couple with a safe and comfortable space to live in.
The Men On Mission initiative continues to make a positive impact on communities throughout Guyana, offering a lifeline to families in need and exemplifying the values of compassion and community support.
