El Nino Brings Sweltering Heat to Guyana

The Chief Hydromet Officer, Dr. Garvin Cummings, has issued a warning about the intensification of El Nino conditions throughout October.

He urges the public to continue adhering to all precautionary measures to cope with the rising temperatures.

In a significant development, Guyana has experienced temperatures surpassing 40℃ for the first time.

Dr. Cummings emphasized that October is anticipated to be the hottest month of the year, with these extreme temperatures being recorded since June.

Dr. Cummings also shared essential tips for individuals engaged in outdoor work. He stressed the importance of staying hydrated and avoiding direct sun exposure during peak hours.

The Hydromet Office has predicted that the drought-like conditions will persist until the first quarter of 2024.
