Eight Guyanese professionals have been selected to participate in a trainee programme facilitated by MODEC Guyana, a Japanese company specializing in the construction and operation of floating solutions for the offshore energy sector.
The initiative, launched in collaboration with ExxonMobil, aims to equip young Guyanese graduates with essential skills to enhance their careers in the offshore energy industry and contribute to the long-term development of Guyana.
During the programme’s commencement ceremony on Thursday, Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton emphasized the need to modernize the education sector to allow students to explore a wider range of career opportunities.
He highlighted the importance of prioritizing technical and vocational education alongside academic learning to meet the demands of the evolving workforce.
MODEC Guyana’s Country Manager, Rafael Fumis, outlined the structure of the trainee programme, which includes immersive hands-on experience in Brazil and Singapore.
Upon completion, the trainees will return to Guyana to take on critical roles within MODEC’s local operations, supporting the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.
The initiative represents a strategic effort to develop future leaders in the industry while fostering local talent for Guyana’s growing offshore energy sector.
