Education Minister Priya Manickchand has announced that the expansion of the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) through a hybrid format has resulted in 99% of teachers already trained or currently undergoing training.
Prior to the implementation of the hybrid training approach at CPCE, only a small group of teachers were receiving training, with many teachers from hinterland regions unable to access it.
However, with the introduction of online and in-person training, the government’s objective to achieve 100% trained teachers by 2025 is well underway.
Minister Manickchand emphasized the significance of trained teachers, noting that this strategic policy aligns with the government’s goal to develop a high-quality education system.
In a significant development, teachers from hinterland areas, such as Monkey Mountains, can now undergo training online without the need to leave their communities or classrooms, marking a historic milestone in education accessibility.
Additionally, Minister Manickchand highlighted a suite of incentives aimed at improving teachers’ welfare in Guyana.
These incentives include increased allowances, scholarships, and duty-free allowances, demonstrating the government’s commitment to supporting educators.
As CPCE continues to play a crucial role in training teachers through innovative approaches, Minister Manickchand’s initiatives underscore the government’s dedication to enhancing the quality of education nationwide.
