Speaking on the EduFM radio program, Minister Manickchand revealed that some of the dormitories slated for rehabilitation are carry-over projects from the previous year.
Notably, the Paramakatoi Dormitory is set to undergo significant repairs, with an estimated cost of up to $300 million.
Additionally, dormitories in Bartica, Port Kaituma, Sand Creek, and Aishalton, all located in Region 9, are included in the rehabilitation plans.
Moreover, the Minister discussed modifications to the teaching curriculum aimed at ensuring that hinterland students have equal opportunities compared to their counterparts in urban areas.
Special attention is being given to Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) opportunities, with facilities being established in various hinterland and coastal locations, including Mabaruma, Bartica, and St. Ignatius.
Minister Manickchand emphasized the importance of offering alternative pathways to students, proposing the inclusion of Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) programs in high schools.
