Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill has provided an update on the Eccles to Providence connector road project, confirming that the major
infrastructure link is expected to be completed soon. The roadway, which will interconnect the Ogle to Eccles highway with Providence on the East Bank of Demerara, is intended to significantly improve traffic flow. During a recent interaction with the media, Minister Edghill noted that this connector road will be similar to the Haags Bosch connector road completed last year.

“When you come over the bridge you come straight around the roundabout and you will have a connector similar to Haags Bosch, similar to Aubrey Barker that connects you all the way to this new four lane-Ogle to Eccles interlink as it is called, but it will now end up from Eccles to Providence,” he said.

The minister explained that the original road alignment would have been too close to a Guyana Power and Light substation and other critical infrastructure. GPL later advised that planned expansion works would make the original alignment unsafe.

“Rather than staying where we are here we go further 200 meters, bypass the GPL infrastructure facilities and then come in an alignment all the way to the bridge so contractors and the consultants needs to come back with a costing, but the work here is moving rapidly,” the minister said.

Minister Edghill noted that while technical challenges are being addressed, the project remains a priority for the government and will be completed shortly.
