Seven small business owners on the East Bank of Demerara, whose operations were affected by infrastructure works under the Adequate Housing and Urban Accessibility Programme (AHUAP), are receiving a fresh start through cash entitlements from the Ministry of Housing and Water.

The total sum of 676,000 Guyanese dollars was distributed to these beneficiaries under the programme’s Livelihood Restoration Plan (LRP), designed to support individuals economically displaced by the ongoing infrastructure works in their communities.

Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin Croal, highlighted the LRP’s goal of helping displaced individuals re-establish or enhance their livelihoods.

He emphasized that the plan goes beyond compensation and includes plans for entrepreneurship, financial management, and small business development training to empower the beneficiaries.

In addition to these financial entitlements, the Ministry is also advancing plans for new community facilities on the East Bank of Demerara and continuing housing distributions and subsidies.

Through these initiatives, the Ministry aims to ensure that the affected persons not only recover but thrive, reflecting the Government’s commitment to improving both urban and rural living standards.

The ongoing work by the Ministry marks a significant step in supporting local businesses and enhancing the overall quality of life in the affected areas.
