E-Litigation Portal Marks Major Milestone in 2025 Law Year Opening

The Court of Appeal and High Court have successfully launched the e-litigation web portal, a key component of the judiciary’s strategic plan for 2025 to 2031.

Acting Chief Justice Roxanne George highlighted this achievement during the opening of the 2025 Law Year and Demerara Criminal Assizes.

The e-litigation system, which facilitates the electronic filing and management of cases across multiple court registries, was introduced in October 2024.

It has been praised for its role in improving the efficiency, accessibility, and transparency of the judicial process.

Between October 4 and December 31, a total of 37 appeals were filed in the Full Court, while 1,637 cases were processed through the system in the High Court.

Chief Justice George described the transition to e-litigation as a seamless transformation, noting that lawyers have readily embraced the system, which has significantly improved the administration of justice.

However, she pointed out that the implementation of an e-payment system is still in progress.

This system will allow payments for filings to be made through electronic means, including bank transactions.

Discussions have been held with both the Honorable Ashni Singh and the Attorney General, and the Chief Justice expressed hope that the issue will be resolved by the end of the current quarter.

Additionally, Chief Justice George highlighted the Attorney General’s focus on introducing e-tickets for traffic violations, further advancing the integration of technology into the justice system.

The e-payment platform, once fully implemented, is expected to streamline the payment of bail, fines, and other fees, offering particular advantages for women and children involved in the judicial process.
