With the current rainy weather in Guyana, Inspector Micheal Ramdas, who oversees regional division 4B, is advising drivers to exercise heightened caution and adhere strictly to speed limits.
Speeding on wet roads increases the likelihood of accidents, and adjusting speed to match visibility and road conditions is essential for safety.
Inspector Ramdas emphasized the importance of driving at a speed that allows for clear visibility and safe stopping distances.
For instance, if the posted speed limit is 80 km/h but visibility is limited, it is safer to drive at a reduced speed, such as 30 km/h, to prevent accidents.
Additionally, all road users are urged to be vigilant, as rain significantly reduces visibility.
Drivers should watch out for pedestrians, particularly children who may run across roads.
Ensuring that vehicles are well-maintained, maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles, and avoiding sudden braking are also crucial safety measures during this period.
The police traffic department continues to stress the importance of these precautions to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.
