PPP General Secretary and Vice President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, has expressed confidence in the systems in place for the 2025 General and Regional Elections.
In a recent press conference, Dr. Jagdeo emphasized that the electoral mechanisms overseen by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) are robust enough to ensure a free, fair, and fraud-free election.
His remarks came after concerns were raised by the Alliance for Change (AFC) about potential vulnerabilities in the election process.
In response, GECOM reiterated its commitment to preventing electoral fraud, including measures to avoid double voting and other malpractices.
Dr. Jagdeo stated that while the 2020 elections were impacted by certain individuals attempting to manipulate the process, the electoral system itself functioned properly, with votes being counted and results issued transparently.
He further noted that since the 2020 elections, additional safeguards have been implemented to strengthen regulations and impose penalties on those involved in election fraud.
GECOM continues to assure the public that it is working diligently to maintain the integrity of the upcoming elections and safeguard the constitutional rights of voters.
