An impactful inning from West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin steered the West Indies women to a commanding victory in the opening T20 of their series against the visiting Bangladeshi side at Warner Park in St. Kitts.

Bangladesh, after opting to bat first, posted a total of 144 for 3 from their 20 overs.

Skipper Nigar Sultana top-scored with a well-played 53 from 40 balls, which included 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Sharmin Akhter contributed 37, while Sobhana Mostary added 22 to their total.

West Indies bowlers Hayley Matthews, Afy Fletcher, and Cherry-Ann Fraser each claimed one wicket.

In their chase, the West Indies reached 145 for 2 in just 16.5 overs, with a strong opening partnership.

Qiana Joseph set the tone, scoring 29 from 21 balls, including 4 fours and a six.

After her dismissal, along with that of Shemaine Campbelle, Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin anchored the innings.

Matthews made 60 from 54 balls, hitting 7 fours, while Dottin smashed a rapid 51 from just 22 balls, featuring 7 sixes, to lead the West Indies to victory.

Bangladesh’s Fahima Khatun was the only wicket-taker for her side, with figures of 2 for 15.

Player of the Match Deandra Dottin reflected on her performance, sharing that she entered the game with the mindset to score big for her team.

The second T20 is set to take place on Wednesday at 6 pm, with the third and final game scheduled for Friday.
