Dos Santos and Barker Triumph in GTA Novice Championship

In the heart of the National Racquet Center on Woolford Avenue, the Guyana Tennis Association’s Inaugural Novice Championship witnessed exhilarating victories by Immanuel Barker and Osafa Dos Santos.

Tuesday night saw a modest crowd gather to witness two thrilling matches.

In the Men’s Beginner class, Osafa Dos Santos secured victory over Joshua Kennedy, claiming five of the last six points to win 6/3.

Dos Santos, now boasting a record of two wins with no losses, showcased his prowess on the court.

Meanwhile, in the men’s intermediate novices, Immanuel Barker dominated his match against Akil Gittens, triumphing 6/1.

With this win, Barker stands on the brink of clinching the title, needing just one more victory to seal his position as champion.

Nkofi Hodge received a walkover from Torrel Scott, adding another layer of excitement to the tournament.

Garvin Lewis, the Public Relations Officer of the Guyana Tennis Association, expressed satisfaction with the response from players to the tournament.

With fifteen participants competing across three categories, players have eagerly embraced the opportunity to showcase their skills at different skill levels.

Lewis noted the high quality of tennis displayed during the championship, despite it being a novice tournament.
