Dolphin Secondary and Excelsior Academy to Clash in Georgetown Digicel Schools Football Championship Final

In an action-packed semi-final showdown at the Ministry of Education ground on Saturday, Dolphin Secondary and Excelsior Academy secured their spots in the final of the Georgetown leg of the Digicel Schools Football Championship.

The first semi-final encounter showcased a closely contested battle between West Ruimveldt and Dolphin Secondary.

Gerry Burnette of Dolphin scored a well-executed goal in the 14th minute, giving his team an early lead.

Despite numerous opportunities to extend their advantage, Dolphin failed to convert, while West Ruimveldt struggled to break through their opponent’s defense, leaving the score 1-0 in favor of Dolphin at halftime.

After the break, West Ruimveldt showed determination and managed to level the score with an Elijah Marcus goal in the 50th minute. However, Dolphin’s Burnette struck again in the 61st minute, securing his team’s 2-1 victory and a spot in the final.

In the feature matchup of the day, Excelsior and Charlestown secondary battled fiercely, resulting in a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time.

Tyrese Lyle gave Excelsior an early lead with a goal in the 2nd minute, but Charlestown retaliated with a goal from Tyler Lyle in the 50th minute.

With the teams deadlocked, a penalty shootout was required to determine the winner.

Excelsior displayed composure and emerged victorious, winning the shootout 4-2.

The highly anticipated final is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 19, at the Ministry of Education ground.

Kickoff is set for 17:30, while the third-place playoff will feature West Ruimveldt and Charlestown secondary battling it out at 16:00hrs.

Football enthusiasts can expect an intense showdown as the two top teams vie for the championship title.
