Diwali Mela Celebrates Light, Hope, and Happiness

The Indian High Commission in Guyana, in collaboration with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, hosted a vibrant Diwali Mela on Sunday, celebrating the Festival of Lights.

The event was filled with cultural activities aimed at spreading joy, light, and hope.

India’s High Commissioner to Guyana, Dr. Amit Telang, spoke about the significance of the Diwali celebration, emphasizing its universal message of triumph—light over darkness, goodness over evil, and bringing hope and happiness to all.

In his remarks, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony extended Diwali wishes to all Guyanese, highlighting the symbolic power of light to dispel darkness, both literally and metaphorically, and calling for personal reflection to become better individuals during the festive season.

The Mela included a rangoli competition, diya painting, traditional dancing, and various cultural performances.

Diwali will be officially celebrated on Thursday, October 31st.
