The festival of lights, Diwali, was celebrated by thousands across Guyana in a bright and festive manner.
Guyanese, especially Hindu-Guyanese, observed the occasion on Sunday, November 12, with the lighting of diyas, the eating of sweetmeats, and various festive activities.
The lighting of diyas is a significant tradition symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, welcoming prosperity, wealth, and positivity.
While the traditional oil-filled clay pots have been replaced by electric lanterns over the years, some shared their experiences and reasons for this shift.
This year’s Diwali celebrations included motorcades, Deep Jales, Jalsas, rangoli competitions, and various festivities held across the country.
