District 10 emerged victorious at ExxonMobil’s inaugural Inter-District Youth Relay Festival 2024, held on Sunday at the National Track and Field Facility in Lenora.

District 10 showcased their dominance by securing the championship title with 172 points, narrowly beating Georgetown, which finished with 170 points to claim second place.

Berbice took third place, followed by Essequibo.

The competition featured athletes from Region Ten, Georgetown, Berbice, and Essequibo.

At a presentation ceremony held on Wednesday at Roroima Duke Lodge, ExxonMobil Guyana awarded prizes, including vouchers, to the top finishers.

District 10 athletes took home over fifty medals, the inaugural championship trophy, and a plaque.

District 10 excelled in several events, including the U16 4×100 meter male and female races, the U20 girls’ 4×100 meter and 4×400 meter races, as well as the U16 boys’ 4×400 meter and 4×200 meter categories.

They also won the sprint medley relay and claimed first place in both the U16 boys’ and U20 girls’ categories.

Additionally, District 10 secured six second places and three third positions.

Arinze Chance, founder of A Record Chance Inc. and promoter of the event, stated that the initiative aimed to reignite interest in track and field within the country.

Athletes were selected based on their performances at last year’s National Schools Championships.
