Distribution of $100,000 Cash Grant Begins in Region Four

Delicia Janneire, February 17, 2025

The distribution of the $100,000 cash grant to each eligible Guyanese adult has officially commenced in Region Four.

Earlier today, residents from various communities along the East Bank Demerara corridor gathered in large numbers to collect their checks.

The initiative has received widespread praise from the beneficiaries, with many expressing their gratitude for the government’s financial support.

Among the recipients, residents of Herstelling and Craig were particularly vocal in their appreciation.

One recipient, Vaadaa Singh, shared her excitement about receiving the cash grant for the first time.

She explained that she plans to allocate part of the funds for her baby’s early savings, while another portion will go toward home and grocery expenses, and the rest will be used for baby supplies.

Another recipient, Bibi Ali, mentioned her immediate plans to use the funds for her medical trip overseas, stating she was relieved to have received the grant in time.

Abdool Jabar, another recipient, expressed his intent to either deposit the cheque in the bank or cash it at the post office to use it for home-related expenses.

However, Jamar Taylor, another beneficiary, was uncertain about how he would use the money but acknowledged the positive impact of the government’s initiative.

The distribution process is scheduled to continue until Saturday, February 22, at various Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) throughout the region.

Earlier this month, the Committee of Supply approved over $40 billion to fund the remaining cash grants.

The government had initially allocated $30 billion for the first phase of the distribution in 2024, which saw over 300,000 Guyanese benefit from the initiative.

To date, pensioners, public servants, and citizens in the hinterland region have all received their cash grants.
