Following the recent flooding in Linden that displaced numerous residents, Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips has urged Region Chairman Derron Adams to take immediate action in reactivating the region’s Disaster Preparedness Committee.

The flooding in Linden highlighted the critical need for a proactive disaster preparedness approach.

Prime Minister Phillips stressed the importance of having an active committee in place to better prepare residents for such emergencies.

During his assessment of the affected areas, Prime Minister Phillips emphasized the need for the Regional Chairman to lead the reactivation of the Disaster Preparedness Committee.

He urged the committee to collaborate closely with the Civil Defense Commission to ensure efficient coordination in disaster response efforts.

One key aspect highlighted by Prime Minister Phillips was the necessity of identifying suitable shelters and ensuring their readiness.

Facilities like the Edgbert Benjamin Center were mentioned as potential shelters, but they require essential upgrades to serve their purpose effectively.

Prime Minister Phillips underscored the importance of fixing facilities such as toilets, lighting, and cooking amenities to make them operational in case of future emergencies.

The call for action by Prime Minister Phillips comes as a response to the lack of preparedness witnessed during the recent flooding.

He urged the Regional Chairman to engage in strategic planning, involve community members, and address critical infrastructure needs to create a safer environment for residents.

It’s worth noting that a disaster preparedness program was initiated in Region Ten in 2017 but was later disbanded.

Prime Minister Phillips’ call for the reactivation of the Disaster Preparedness Committee underscores the urgency of the situation and the need for proactive measures to mitigate the impact of natural disasters in Linden.

Residents of Linden await action from the local authorities to ensure their safety and security in the face of future emergencies.
