Disagreement Arises Over Linden Town Week 2024 Preparations

The Linden Mayor and Town Council and the municipality’s administration remain at loggerheads over preparations for Linden Town Week 2024

The Linden Mayor and Town Council, along with the municipal administration, are entangled in a dispute regarding preparations for Linden Town Week 2024, leading to an extraordinary Council meeting called to address the escalating issues.

The Social Committee’s last two meetings were prematurely adjourned due to disagreements among some Councilors and Acting Town Clerk Lennox Gasper.

The contentious points include determining the date, theme, logo, and the establishment of a committee to oversee the anticipated celebration.

Acting Town Clerk Lennox Gasper asserted that proper processes were not followed in the decision-making, causing disruptions in the planning process.

He emphasized the need for adherence to established procedures.

However, Mayor Sharma Solomon contested Gasper’s approach, suggesting that the Town Week planning process is being deliberately hindered.

Solomon expressed frustration, questioning the difficulties in reaching a consensus and urging cooperation to avoid delays.

Solomon proposed the dissolution of the committee responsible for managing Linden Town Week 2023, which included former officials no longer serving the municipality.

The Mayor suggested holding town week celebrations from April 26 to May 6, with a tentative launch date on January 27, 2024, at the Linden Town Council Boardroom.

Gasper also called for an amicable resolution, emphasizing the need for discussions outside the constitutional framework.

He highlighted that until the management committee is appointed, no funds can be collected for events, emphasizing the committee’s role in approving and accepting payments for events.

The ongoing disagreement threatens the smooth planning and execution of Linden Town Week 2024, a significant event eagerly anticipated by the community.
