Diamond Regional Hospital Set to Open in 2024: A Milestone in Guyana’s Healthcare Transformation

The Diamond Regional Hospital, a state-of-the-art healthcare facility, is on track to be inaugurated by the end of the year, marking a significant step forward in Guyana’s efforts to enhance its health infrastructure.

Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony provided assurances during a recent site visit to the construction area.

Minister Anthony reported that the project is progressing according to the established timeline, with the foundational phase completed and the construction of upright structures underway.

By the end of the next month, all frames are expected to be in place, aligning with the overall project schedule.

Dr. Anthony expressed confidence that the hospital will be fully operational by the close of 2024.

The Diamond Regional Hospital is a key component of the government’s initiative to establish a world-class health system in Guyana and position the country as a regional health hub.

The facility is designed to offer a comprehensive range of services, including patient clinics, x-ray and CT scans, a fully functional modern accident and emergency room operating 24/7, a modern laboratory, and 75 patient beds with two modern operating theatres and a minor theatre.

Part of an extensive $37.2 billion initiative, the Diamond Regional Hospital and five other regional facilities are being constructed in partnership with China’s Sinopharm International.

The collaborative effort aims to modernize the regional healthcare system in Guyana.

The additional regional hospitals, located in Anna Regina (Region Two), De Kinderen (Region Three), Enmore (Region Four), Bath (Region Five), and Skeldon (Region Six), are expected to become operational by 2025.

As Guyana strives to achieve a world-class healthcare system, the Diamond Regional Hospital stands as a symbol of progress and commitment to the well-being of the nation’s citizens.
