Department of Labour Hosts Occupational Safety and Health Walk

In New Amsterdam, Berbice, the Department of Labour in Region Six organized its annual Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Walk, aimed at raising awareness about workplace safety and health.

The walk, which commenced from Philadelphia Street and concluded at the New Amsterdam Technical Institute, saw participation from various agencies, including the Guyana Power and Light, Guyana Water Incorporated, Nand Persaud Group of Companies, and students from the New Amsterdam Technical Institute, among others.

Regional Occupational Safety and Health Officer Nazmoon Jafarally emphasized the importance of the event in promoting awareness of occupational health and safety practices within workplaces.

She highlighted the necessity for employers to provide safe drinking water for employees, especially in the face of extreme weather conditions.

Jafarally also outlined other activities planned by the Ministry of Labour and the Department in Region Six for Occupational Safety and Health Month, which is observed under the theme “We are running out of time: Ensuring safe and healthy work now in a changing climate.”

The event underscored the commitment of the Department of Labour to prioritize the safety and well-being of workers and promote a culture of workplace safety.
