Vendors along Dennis Street, Sophia, are set to benefit from a newly established market area aimed at providing a more organized and official space for their operations.

The initiative was announced during a visit by Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy, and Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar.

The ministers met with vendors on Monday to outline plans for the project and address concerns related to their relocation.

According to the officials, the new market area will prioritize existing merchants, ensuring they are allocated stalls first.

However, additional spaces will be made available for other vendors based on stall availability.

The initiative aims to create a cleaner and more structured environment for both vendors and the wider community.

Minister McCoy emphasized the importance of the project in supporting vendors’ livelihoods while promoting a well-maintained and organized trading area.

Minister Indar detailed plans for assessing the size and scope of existing stalls to ensure the new market adequately accommodates all vendors and their needs.

The foundation work for the new market is already underway at the intersection of Dennis Street and ‘B’ Field Sophia, signaling significant progress in the initiative.

The project is expected to enhance the local economy and improve living conditions for those who rely on vending as their primary source of income.

This development is part of the government’s broader efforts to support small businesses and encourage economic growth at the community level.
