Dengue fever cases have witnessed a significant decline across the country, with only 40 reported cases this week.

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, credits this positive trend to a series of robust measures implemented in communities to curb the spread of the disease.

In an exclusive interview with NCN News, Minister Anthony provided insights into the current statistics related to dengue testing and diagnosis.

Over the past week, a total of 269 tests were conducted, resulting in the diagnosis of 40 individuals with dengue.

Notably, there were no admissions reported during this period.

Since the beginning of the year, approximately 13,186 tests have been performed, with 3,182 yielding positive results.

Among the positive cases, 282 individuals required hospitalization.

Dr. Anthony emphasized the proactive approach taken by vector control units nationwide to address the dengue menace.

These efforts include the distribution of abait, which effectively destroys mosquito larvae in water bodies, along with the provision of nets and regular fogging activities.

Fogging, conducted in the evenings to coincide with the mosquito’s feeding time, is a crucial component of the vector control strategy.

Each region has dedicated vector control teams tasked with guiding and assisting communities in their efforts to combat dengue.

Dr. Anthony underscored the importance of early testing for individuals experiencing symptoms, underscoring the critical role of early detection in containing the spread of the disease.

The Health Minister emphasized the significance of community vigilance and cooperation in the ongoing fight against dengue. Eliminating potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes remains paramount in curbing the spread of the disease.

As Guyana continues its battle against dengue fever, the collaborative efforts of government authorities, healthcare professionals, and communities are instrumental in achieving sustained success in combating this public health challenge.
