On Saturday, December 16, the Oceana Theatre in Brooklyn, New York, will host the second annual DEMROC Music Awards, recognizing the outstanding contributions of Guyanese musicians, artistes, and entertainers.

The event, dubbed “The DMA’s” and considered Guyana’s version of the BET awards, aims to celebrate and challenge individuals within the creative and entertainment space to enhance their craft.

Shawn “DEMROC” McAllister, the organizer of the awards, emphasizes the importance of challenging each other to elevate their skills.

The awards serve as a platform to appreciate and crown individuals who have made significant contributions to the industry.

McAllister notes that the event is not an attempt to reinvent awards but to honor Guyanese talent uniquely, celebrating their achievements in the local context.

The Red Carpet ceremony is anticipated to be a memorable affair, combining elements of recognition and celebration in the distinctive “Guyana way.” With over 70 Guyanese nominees set to receive awards in 19 categories, the event promises to showcase the rich talent within the Guyanese community.

Diamond Natural, an American/Guyanese Social Media Entertainer, has been announced as this year’s host.

She expresses the importance of acknowledging the creative talents within Guyana and believes that the night will accelerate the recognition of Guyanese talent on a broader stage.

Diamond, born in the US but with roots in Guyana, sees the event as an opportunity to showcase the wealth of talent in the country.

She believes it’s time for Guyana to be seen and recognized for its artistic contributions.

In addition to recognizing the contemporary talents, special awards will be presented to notable figures such as Veteran Journalist Gordon Mosley and Sports Journalist Rawle Toney.

These awards serve not only as a celebration of current achievements but also as an acknowledgment of the lasting impact of individuals in their respective fields.

As the DEMROC Music Awards unfold at the Oceana Theatre, it promises to be a vibrant celebration of Guyanese talent, providing a platform for artists, musicians, and entertainers to shine on an international stage.
