The demolition of all properties in the path of the New Demerara River Bridge at Peter’s Hall is almost complete, with the final properties set to be cleared soon.
Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, provided this update during a site visit conducted earlier today.
With the overall construction progress of the bridge now at 78%, full clearance has been granted for the demolition of the remaining properties.
All payments to the property owners have been made, and demolition of the last houses is expected to be completed by next Wednesday, December 3.
The contractor, Wang Zhiliang of China Railway Construction Company Limited, expressed his satisfaction with the progress, noting that the completion of property clearance ensures no further delays in the project.
With this issue resolved, work on the bridge will continue smoothly to meet the March 31, 2025, deadline.
To date, 48 girders have been installed on the West Bank side of the bridge, and 16 have been placed on the East Bank side.
The New Demerara River Bridge remains a critical infrastructure project aimed at improving transportation and connectivity in the region.
