Demerara proved their dominance in the GCB Senior Inter-County Super50 competition, securing their second consecutive title with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Essequibo at the Georgetown Cricket Club, Bourda, over the weekend.

The defending champions maintained their unbeaten streak throughout the campaign, showcasing exceptional skill and discipline.

Under clear skies, Essequibo batted first and struggled to 164 all out in 46.5 overs.

Kanhaiya Ramkarran contributed 49 runs, while Keanu Harry chipped in with 26, providing some resistance.

Demerara’s Ronaldo Ali Mohamed delivered a standout performance, taking four wickets for 47 runs and earning the Player of the Match title.

Chasing 165 for victory, Demerara comfortably reached the target in 33.4 overs, thanks to a solid 57 from Matthew Nandu and an unbeaten 56 from captain Tevin Imlach.

Despite the efforts of Essequibo bowlers Malcolm Hubbard (2 for 19) and Quentin Sampson, Demerara’s clinical approach with the bat sealed the win.

Essequibo’s captain, Anthony Adams, reflected on the match, noting that early challenges on a tacky pitch and key losses in the first half hour hindered their efforts to set a competitive total.

With the local Super50 campaign concluded, attention now shifts to the Regional Super50 tournament scheduled in the coming weeks.

The Guyana Cricket Board has also announced plans for an upcoming T20 competition, promising more action for cricket enthusiasts.
