A groundbreaking agricultural project is set to transform communities along Guyana’s Demerara River into a major production center.

President Irfaan Ali, alongside Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha, unveiled the initiative focused on cultivating high-value crops and products to not only meet domestic needs but also reach regional markets.

President Ali met with residents of Susannah Rust, Dora, and other Demerara River communities in Region 10 to discuss the project’s details.

Following a comprehensive evaluation, these communities were identified as prime locations for honey production, with the potential to create various honey by-products.

Empowering women in these communities is a key aspect of the project. President Ali pledged for women to lead the honey production and shade house projects.

The government will provide all the necessary tools, training, equipment, and even beehives to get these ventures off the ground.

President Ali emphasized a message of partnership and shared success.

He assured residents that the government would provide the necessary resources, but their commitment and hard work would be crucial to the project’s long-term viability.

President Ali’s visit extended beyond Susannah Rust and Dora, encompassing Sand Hills, Low Wood Village, and other Demerara River communities.

Throughout these locations, he reiterated the government’s unwavering dedication to fostering development at the community and national levels.

The President also took the time to hear residents’ concerns and pledged to address the majority of them.

This new agricultural project signifies a significant step towards a more vibrant and prosperous future for the Demerara River communities.

With government support and resident commitment, this initiative has the potential to transform the region into a thriving agricultural hub.
