In the latest matches of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) National T20 League, sponsored by BetCageSport, the Demerara Pitbulls and the Essequibo Jaguars secured impressive victories at the Pomona Ground, Essequibo Coast.
The first match saw the Essequibo Jaguars defeating the Berbice Piranhas by 43 runs.
Batting first, the Jaguars posted a competitive total of 146 for eight in their 20 overs.
Zeynul Ramsammy top-scored with 34 runs, while Rajiv Ivan added a quick-fire 28, and Kevon Jawahir contributed 25.
In response, the Berbice Piranhas could only manage 103 runs, losing all their wickets in just 17.3 overs.
Nigel Deodat (24), Under-19 star Romeo Deonarine (21), and Seon Glasgow (20) were the only batters to offer any resistance.
Jeomal LaFleur (3/13), captain Ricardo Adams (3/19), and rising star Myheim Khan (2/23) were the standout bowlers for the Jaguars.
In the second match, the Pitbulls comfortably defeated the Hawks by six wickets.
Batting first, the Hawks could only muster 93 for eight in their 20 overs.
Jeremiah Scott was the top scorer with an unbeaten 31, while Shemroy Barrington added 19.
Dwain Dick starred with the ball, taking 3/28, supported by Golcharran Chulai and Nkosi Beaton, who claimed two wickets each.
Needing just 94 runs to win, the Pitbulls chased down the target in only 12.2 overs.
Jonathan Van-Lange anchored the chase with an unbeaten 37, while Joshua Persad contributed 24 runs to guide the Pitbulls to victory.
With these wins, the Demerara Pitbulls and Essequibo Jaguars now sit at the top of the tournament standings, both on six points, with the Pitbulls having the superior net run-rate.
The GCB National T20 League continues to showcase thrilling cricket action, with both teams looking to maintain their momentum in the competition.
