Demerara Female Academy, Classic Ball Blasters, and D’Edward Volleyball Academy Triumph in GSA Inaugural Championship

The Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) hosted its inaugural volleyball competition over the weekend, with Demerara Female Academy, Classic Ball Blasters, and D’Edward Volleyball Academy emerging as champions in their respective categories.

The tournament featured eight competing teams, including academies from Berbice, Demerara, and D’Edward, along with Berbice High School and the host institution, Guyana School of Agriculture.

In the senior men’s finals, D’Edward Academy secured victory over GSA in straight sets (25-19, 25-12) in a best-of-three games format.

Harold Booker from D’Edward Academy was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament for his standout performance.

The competition kicked off with a round-robin playoff among the male academies, where D’Edward and GSA advanced to the finals after an intense 30-point round.

In the women’s division, Demerara Female Academy triumphed over Berbice Female Academy in a thrilling final match.

After dropping the opening set 22-25, Demerara rallied to claim the next two sets 25-19, 16-14, clinching the match 2-1.

Saskia Butters from Demerara was awarded the MVP title in this category.

In the senior female playoff category, Classic Ball Blasters defeated Berbice Females comfortably in consecutive sets (25-19, 25-22), with Eureka Dennis earning the MVP accolade for her standout performance.

The tournament was supported by sponsorship from the National Sports Commission and the Guyana Volleyball Federation, underscoring its significance in promoting volleyball and fostering competitive spirit among schools and academies across the region.
