Deaf Artistry Unveiled

The Deaf Association of Guyana is currently hosting an art exhibition titled “Deaf Artistry Unveiled: Fostering Talent, Shaping Perspectives” at the National Gallery of Art in Castellani House.

This initiative aims to promote inclusivity and empowerment by showcasing the creative talents of three hearing-impaired artists.

The exhibition, which opened to the public on January 18, features the artistic works of Jaideo Nankissore, Reon Herman, and Rixon Williams.

The pieces on display reflect the exceptional creativity of these deaf artists, offering a unique perspective on their artistic expression.

Jaideo Nankissore, Reon Herman, and Rixon Williams, using a translator, expressed their gratitude for the opportunity provided by the Deaf Association of Guyana.

They shared their perspectives on having their art displayed at this level, emphasizing the significance of the exhibition in showcasing their talent to a broader audience.

In addition to the exhibition, two workshops were organized as part of the event. One workshop, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, allowed deaf students to explore and express their artistic skills.

The other workshop invited artists to visit the exhibition and create pieces themed “Dream a Boat.”

Ohene Koama, Acting Curator of the National Gallery of Art, commended the initiative, encouraging the public to visit and support the exhibition.

He emphasized the impressive nature of the displayed artworks and invited people to experience the unique perspectives presented by the deaf artists.

The exhibition, initially scheduled to conclude on February 8, provides a platform for fostering understanding, appreciation, and recognition of the artistic contributions of the hearing-impaired community.

This initiative contributes to the broader mission of promoting inclusivity, breaking barriers, and creating opportunities for diverse artistic expressions within the cultural landscape of Guyana.
