Forty residents of De Endragt Village, East Coast Demerara, also known as Mon Repos North, were awarded their long-awaited land titles today.

This significant milestone was achieved through the efforts of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA).

The distribution event, held at the village’s regional office, was attended by Collin Croal, Minister of Housing and Water.

Minister Croal announced that this distribution is part of a broader effort to regularize and process land ownership in the area.

Of the 67 lots surveyed, 40 titles were distributed today, with plans for future distributions to cover the remaining lots.

Minister Croal emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its citizens, with additional allocations in De Endragt anticipated in the coming months.

He noted that the land titles will provide residents with the opportunity to secure loans and invest in their properties, thereby enhancing their economic stability.

Many of the new title holders, who have lived on their plots for over thirty years, are from the local fishing community.

The Minister of Agriculture, also present at the event, expressed satisfaction at the empowerment these land titles represent for the fisherfolk families.

This initiative marks a significant step forward in the government’s ongoing efforts to provide land ownership and improve living conditions for its citizens.
