Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) is set to showcase its world-renowned El Dorado Rum in a global cocktail competition celebrating both heritage and mixology.

The inaugural El Dorado Heritage Rum Cocktail Competition will bring together five top bartenders from the US, UK, Canada, and Guyana to compete in Guyana for the title of global champion.

Scheduled for Thursday, August 22, the competition highlights the exceptional skills of bartenders while emphasizing the rich heritage of El Dorado Rum.

The event also serves as a platform to promote Guyana’s growing tourism and hospitality sector.

The competition commenced with a call for entries via Instagram, where participants submitted unique cocktail recipes that reflect their cultural backgrounds and the essence of El Dorado Rum.

The finalists, selected from regional competitions in their respective countries, are now in Guyana to compete in the global final.

DDL’s Brand Communications Manager, Schemel Patrick, noted that the competition aims to celebrate not only the heritage of El Dorado Rum but also the diverse cultural influences of bartenders worldwide.

The contestants have been immersing themselves in Guyanese culture, cuisine, and landscapes to inspire their final creations.

The grand prize includes US$5,000, a rare collection of El Dorado rums, and the esteemed title of global champion.

The competition promises to be an exciting display of creativity and skill as bartenders craft cocktails that embody their personal and cultural narratives.

DDL CEO, Komal Samaroo, expressed enthusiasm about hosting the event under a Guyanese brand and highlighted the opportunity for the competition to shine a spotlight on Guyana’s vibrant tourism and hospitality industry.

The competition not only aims to discover the best cocktail but also to strengthen Guyana’s position as a significant player in the global tourism and hospitality sectors.
