DCC Summer Camp Aims to Nurture Young Athletes

The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) has launched its highly anticipated summer youth program, offering young athletes the opportunity to hone their cricketing skills.

With over 100 registered participants between the ages of 6 and 18, the camp is designed to teach both the fundamentals of the game and provide advanced training for more experienced players.

According to DCC President and former West Indies cricketer Roger Harper, the camp has been well-received by the young athletes, who have embraced the program with enthusiasm.

Despite the hot conditions, participants have shown dedication, often playing even during lunch breaks.

Harper emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent, noting that many of the best players in Guyana and the Caribbean started in similar camps.

He expressed hope that this initiative would inspire a new generation of cricketers, some of whom may join the Demerara Cricket Club and develop their skills further.

The camp’s goal is not only to teach the technical aspects of cricket but also to foster a passion for the sport.

Harper highlighted the program’s focus on creating a safe and supportive environment where young players can learn and grow, potentially becoming future stars in Caribbean cricket.
