In a thrilling finale of the “One Guyana King and Queen of the Sand Football” tournament, DC Ballers emerged victorious in the men’s category, defeating LA Ballers 2-1.
In the tense contest, an early own-goal by LA Ballers gave DC Ballers a one-nil advantage.
Despite several attempts by LA Ballers to level the score, including shots hitting the upright and crossbar, DC Ballers secured a 2-1 victory.
Zidane Ramdehol extended DC Ballers’ lead to 2-0 in the 11th minute, and Andre Mayers pulled one back for LA Ballers in the 16th minute.
With no additional goals in the second half, DC Ballers claimed the championship with a $1 million cash prize.
In the women’s category, Speightland triumphed over Dynamo with a 3-2 victory. Sheneesa Cornelius scored two goals in the 35th and 39th minutes, while Nikita Wayne contributed a single strike in the 23rd minute for Speightland.
Dynamo had taken a 2-0 lead at the break with goals from Sandra Johnson (5th minute) and Glendy Lewis.
In the third-place match for the women, Hururu secured a 1-0 victory against Aroaima, with Nalini Fredericks scoring the lone goal in the 5th minute.
The presentation of cash and trophies followed the exciting matches, with Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill in attendance.
