The Dakoura Creek Watershed Management Strategy is advancing into its critical implementation phase, with stakeholders invited to contribute to its development.

A consultation, led by Water Specialist Samuel Wright, is set for Monday, December 16, at the Watooka Guest House in Linden.

The Dakoura Creek, located on the western sub-section of Linden, serves as a vital source of potable water for nearby communities. Its preservation is the central focus of the management plan, first developed in 2019 but not yet implemented.

Wright highlighted that funding from the CREW Project and the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has now made it possible to operationalize the plan.

This marks a significant step forward in transitioning from planning to action.

The initiative aims to ensure the sustainable use of the creek, addressing issues such as pollution, overuse, and the impacts of climate change on the ecosystem.

Wright emphasized that all activities within the watershed must prioritize its primary purpose as a source of clean water for the community.

The consultation will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to share their insights and collaborate on strategies for safeguarding this essential natural resource.

The outcomes of the discussion are expected to shape future management practices and support the continued availability of clean water for the region.
